The Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) was formed on 1 July 2019. The new department was created from the merging of the two former departments of Justice, and Family and Community Services.
By combining Justice and FACS, the two former agencies, are now able to work together as DCJ to support everyone's right to access justice, to help families, and to promote early intervention and inclusion, in order to provide benefits for the whole community.

We encourage the ongoing development of staff and management through a wide range of internal training programs covering workplace information, client services, information technology, supervision and management. Employment Support for People with Disability
There are many ways in which DCJ provides employment support for people with disability both during recruitment process and at work.
- Designing recruitment materials and tools for everyone (role descriptions, application forms, selection processes) which are available in accessible or alternative formats
- Our Talent Acquisition specialists are Disability Confident Recruiters with the Australian Network on Disability (AND) and means they work closely with hiring managers advising on all recruitment and selection processes to ensure they are accessible and inclusive for people with disability. It also means that we offer adjustments in the recruitment and selection process to people with disability so that they can participate fully in the recruitment process
- Providing workplace adjustments enable our employees with disability to perform the inherent requirements of the role to their full potential.
- Encouraging staff and managers to undertake disability awareness training.
- Established a DCJ Disability Employee Network (DEN) which provides peer support and useful information to their members as well as contribute to organisational decision-making such as policy development.
